Welcome Back

I hope every one had a pleasant start of the school year. The beginning can be a bit repetitive with teachers re-introducing procedures that students already know, or mind boggling; “not another new procedure!”, especially for those students changing schools.

But at the end of this years school journey will be another exciting actual journey to Athens and Rome!! We will learn its History where it happened!

I’m pretty jazzed myself! to celebrate I found, watched, and have posted (highlighted in blue) a short clip of Athens highlights . Enjoy

Please check the calendar page for updates

closing the enrollment for Athens and Rome July 15th.

Hello All,

We will be closing the enrollment for Athens and Rome July 15th.

We already have 10 definite travelers and 5 verbal commitments that are waiting for one thing or another – that makes 15. I’d like to get to 18. The Price since our info Meeting at RCMS has already increased 155 dollars – sorry. Increases can happen monthly. It may not increase at all, it may increase just $10.00, or it, evidently, may increase $155.00 or more. The increases for Peru were quite small at first. Europe seems a different animal, so if you are certain, please enroll ASAP.

Some may ask why do it now? A very reasonable question. In the end, parents and students will have their own reasons and they may all be different. The best reason may be because the opportunity is here, now. Beyond that, I believe that young people that have seen the World, more than the town or state or even the country, but who have seen different cultures, different landscapes, different stars in the sky, those people see the world they live in broadly. They see their place in the world both more clearly and they become more comfortable in their own skin. They engage in learning because whatever is being taught/learned has context and importance.

Just a reminder of what we will do –

In Athens we will visit:

    • Olympic Stadium
    • Omonia and Syntagma Squares We forget that Greece was a part of the Ottoman Empire
  • Visit the Acropolis: I’m Very excited to see the structure and the scars of 2000+ years on it

    • Parthenon
    • Temple of Athena Nike
  • Visit the Acropolis Museum
  • Plaka District – old historic neighborhood in Athens
  • Temple of Olympian Zeus – This is all very Percy Jackson-ish
  • Participate in a Greek dance lesson

In Rome we will:

  • Take a guided tour of Vatican City
  • Visit the Sistine Chapel – pretty excited to see Michelangelo’s work first hand
  • Visit St. Peter’s Basilica  – most renowned piece of architecture of the renaissance
  • Take an expertly guided tour of Rome
  • Visit the Colosseum  – a 7th wonder of the world
  • Visit the Roman Forum archeological ruins

At the beginning of the school year we will have our first meeting when we will go over fundraising for the year. Our first fundraiser will be a simple can drive. I have a list of about 8 fundraisers that we can slim down at that meeting to about 5. I’m very open to ideas. We will also go over application letters that are still due and start researching Athens.

As always I suggest you visit our website at
randolphtap.org and/or the EFtours web page.http://www.eftours.com/ and use the tour number – 1817430CU

Sincerely,

Mr. Moore

Interested in Athens and Rome?

One of the first steps a student can take for going to Athens and Rome next year is to click on the application tab above and fill out the first part of the application. The first part is just who you are and some basic information. One issue we need to deal with is how many people can go. We like to keep the numbers in multiple of 6s because we plan for 1 chaperone for every 6 students. We will top out at 36, although I don’t expect that many travelers this time – we are a young program. We currently have 15 people who have completed that process and one that has already had a recommendation submitted – nice job!

If you are interested please let us know by completing the first step of the application.

Thanks

Anybody know a good restaurant?

I was hoping to find a restaurant or two in Randolph, preferably a Greek or Italian restaurant based on the Athens/Rome tour, that may be interested in helping us do a  fund raiser. We can invite all we can to their eatery and RandolphTAP gets a portion of the receipts. (What does RandolphTAP do with the money – look at the post on the Calendar tab) What does the Restaurant get – customers that may not have tried their restaurant yet. Any ideas? email me (contacts tab) or leave a comment.

Roman Colloseum

I’ve been doing some lite research on different aspects of our trip to Athens and Rome and Peru.

The Colosseum is actually a constructed amphitheater. Unlike the Greeks who built their amphitheaters into the ground, the Romans, around 80AD built there amphitheater up from the ground. It is no longer whole. It fell prey to earthquakes and stone robbers (so they could build something else I guess)

Those traveling to Peru in June will see a structure, the Huaca Pucllana, a great pyramid, which was used 100 years after the Colosseum was built . It was used as a ceremonial and administrative center.

How to enroll for the Athens-Rome Trip in July 2017

When we first were thinking about this tour we wanted to stay with the ancient world theme.  We discussed the goals of a trip with EF Tours and  went over the things we really felt were important to see as well as the time frame. They suggested the tour we are taking.

This post is about the steps for enrolling. The following are screens shots of the enrollment process as well as a link to EF Tours . The text in blue is a link to EF Tours enrollment page for out tour. There is one at the top and one at the bottom. Clicking it opens another tab on your browser.

This is the global protection page. It is mandatory for our trip which is why it says, no need to decide. Send me an email if you feel strongly against it. It is an additional $155 and it is included in your costs.
